Keys on Parade Group Piano ProgramKeys on Parade is a non-profit after school program, providing impactful group piano classes to children in the Duval County Public Schools. Children enrolled in the program are stimulated and nourished with much needed exposure to music education, while learning fun piano ensembles and at home practice techniques.
The program is designed to encourage confidence and enthusiasm in beginning musicians. Compared to private piano lessons, the group piano curriculum is a comprehensive approach to learning music. In the group setting children learn to sing songs, dance to rhythm activities, play music theory games, and perform ensemble pieces as a team. Through incorporation of these activities, children experience music fundamentals through a wide range of stimulating and enjoyable activities. The course is fun and interactive, while developing tight-knit bonds among student peers, Edward Waters College mentors, and parents - an opportunity to learn as a community. With funding from Faber Piano Adventures, the United Way, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Costco, and Duval County Public Schools, we are able to provide high quality music education to over 100 elementary school students who would otherwise receive limited exposure to the arts. After three years, all our graduates have received superior ratings (the highest achievable) at Florida state music festivals. The success of our program has earned us features on the CW Network program Real School TV, as well as Florida Federation of Music Clubs’ publication Sharps and Flats. Since Fall 2017, our program has expanded into Florida’s No. 1 ranked elementary school: Jacksonville Beach Elementary School. Awards and honors received by students of Dr. Lucy Chen:
