
Dr. Lucy Chen is an award-winning soloist and collaborative pianist who has worked with numerous musicians in the United States, Singapore, and China. Highlights of her past engagements include performances at the St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, the Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Music Teacher’s National Association conference in Oberlin Conservatory, the Liszt Bicentennial Celebration at the Boston Tsai Performance Center, and the Spring of Shanghai Concert Series at the He Lu Ding Concert Hall in Shanghai, China.
As an educator, Dr. Chen is a strong advocate for arts integration. She is a teaching artist for the Kennedy Center's Lift Every Student Initiative and founder/director of the Keys on Parade group piano program, a quality, non-profit music program serving underrepresented students in the Jacksonville urban core. Many of Dr. Chen's students have won national and international competitions and awards, including the American Protégé International Piano Competition, the Bay State Competition (MMTA), the Royal Conservatory Of Music Development Program Award, and the Distinction Award (ABRSM), earning them opportunities to perform at prestigious locations such as Carnegie Hall in New York City. In both 2010 and 2013, Dr. Chen was featured by the Boston Epoch Times as an outstanding music educator.
Dr. Chen received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance from Boston University. Prior to her appointment as Conservatory Director and Head of Music Programs at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in New Jersey, she served as the chair of the Music Department and Honors College at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida.
